A Comparison Of Domain Name Registrars
Disclaimer: I only own about 100 domain names or so presently so I haven’t tried every registrar out there but I have tried several and I do believe this article maybe helpful.
Best Domain Name Registrars
1and1 – $7 a year with privacy – price can’t be beat..
Pros: Look around and do your own due diligence but this price cannot be beat. Domains are automatically renewed.
Cons: Annoying factor: Clunky Interface and a delay in registering your names servers. Typically you register a domain name and then you come back 24 hours later and tell your name registrar where your website will be. You have login into another website cancel.1and1.com to cancel a domain name.
Dreamhost – $9.99 a year with privacy -would be my ideal choice
Pros: Very full featured, very easy to use with to transfer domain names in and out. No upsell. Simple and easy with all the features you need.
Cons: At $9.99 Slightly more expensive than 1and1. This maybe be an issue if you are buying hundreds of domain names.
OK But Not Strongly Recommended Registrars
Godaddy – $15 a year with domain privacy – OK
Pros: A better price than network solutions but not the best.
Cons: Continual upsell on everything on their network. As a business it’s their objective to make money but personally I find it quite annoying that they try to upsell you at every possible opportunity. An accidental click and you have bought something you don’t need. Read their terms of service. Lots of things that they don’t like.
Namecheap – $15 a year with domain privacy
Pros: good price
Cons: The give you free privacy for the first year and then they charge you. Deleted domains still appear to be owned by them and they may charge you.
Moniker – $12 with domain privacy
Pros: Lots of exotic foreign domain names.
Cons: This company used to be good, however the original owners have sold out and now company is not good as they used to be one caveat if you’re looking for more exotic domains moniker
Registrars To Be Avoided At All Costs
Network solutions $35 a year – Avoid at all costs.
In addition to their outrageous charge of $35 a year, network solutions makes it very difficult to switch registrars. This is a company that is not well regarded by many web professionals. Unfortunately, they were the first domain name registrar so they have a lot of momentum.

Thanks for the reviews.
FYI -I think the privacy with GoDaddy is only free if you buy 5 or more domains, and in anycase, is only free for the 1st year, then you pay like an additional $8/$9 for the privacy. Despite some limitations, I still prefer 1and1.com for my domains.

Hi Bill
Thanks for the comment.
Same issue with namecheap, they give you free privacy for the first year and then the raise the price the next year.
I have most of my names with 1and1 also.
