How To Get Amazon’s S3 Service Working In Four Easy Steps

I have been hearing about Amazon’s S3 service for a while now. Recently on a Pppclassroom.com presentation Keith Baxter of Modern Click recommended it and today SoftwareProjects.com recommended it as well.

Anyways, I finally installed it and got it working and it turns out it was a lot easier than I thought. 6 months ago I looked into using it and it looked too complicated and time consuming to get setup.

Here is my very quick guide to get Amazon S3 service working for video hosting, files, etc in three easy steps.

  1. First go to Amazon Web Service’s page and signup. http://aws.amazon.com/
  2. Install S3Fox – which is a firefox extension – https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3247
  3. Restarting Firefox to install the S3Fox plugin. Click the manage account tab and enter your various codes – the account name can be anything. Create a bucket on the right hand side.
  4. Upload the file – from left to right and then right click on the file and select edit ACL and click everyone view. Right click again to where it says copy url to clipboard. There you have your URL.
